The Flag’s Call

On the balcony, the flag snaps in the breeze,

a sound so sharp it makes the heart freeze,

distant memories stir in its wake,

a promise, a whisper, a choice to make.

Caught off guard by a sudden gust,

that frayed fabric calls, igniting a trust,

a flicker of childhood, bright and bold,

underneath that banner, our stories unfold.

Each flap and flutter a memory shared,

something we cherished, something declared,

I close my eyes, hear it ripple like hope,

a tether to moments where I learned to cope.
