I saw a brown coat hanging up on the peg

I saw a brown coat hanging up on the peg,

like a ghost with no body or even a leg.

The building looks fine and the windows are clean,

it’s like I was never a part of the scene.

The box on the seat has a tape-covered tear,

filled with my stapler and pens I won't share.

The world is a machine that doesn't need me,

it runs on its own, like the salt in the sea.
