The steering pulls toward the ditch,
a steady lean I have to fight.
The asphalt has a jagged glitch
that caught the tire in the night.
A heavy thud, a metal sound,
the suspension groaning at the shock.
I saw the hubcap on the ground,
resting near a piece of rock.
It’s lying in the weeds and dirt,
a silver shield that didn’t hold.
The road is where the edges hurt,
turning gray and getting old.
