Load Bearing

I was folding the shirts on the floor

when I couldn't stand up anymore.

The laundry is piled in a heap,

and I’m buried in secrets I keep.

But my spine is a wire pulled tight,

failing at the end of the night.

I’m stuck on my knees in the cold,

feeling the weight of the fold.
