The Unwashed View

The sun is a witness I didn't invite

to show me the grease and the soot and the blight.

The neighbor’s dog is a blur in the yard,

while looking through here is increasingly hard.

A thumbprint is stuck in the center of the pane,

a yellowing fossil of sweat and of stain.

The estate is a pile of ink on the wood,

and I haven't answered the way that I should.
