Tungsten and Gravity

I was tallying what I owe the state

when the light above decided my fate.

A sharp metallic snap, a sudden blink,

leaving me there at the edge of the sink.

I shook the glass pear to hear the sound

of a tiny wire bridge falling down.

It rattled like a beetle, dry and thin,

trapped in the vacuum under the skin.
