Heads or Tails

The 1994 quarter is back in the jar

after three months in my jeans.

I found it under the radiator grill

where the floor vent leaks and leans.

It’s the one I used to decide the lease,

back when I couldn't decide.

I watched it spin on the linoleum tiles

with nowhere left to hide.

Washington’s face is scratched to hell.

The metal is dull and gray.

I got the answer I thought I wanted

but I'm still in the kitchen today.
