Thin Blue

Washing dishes, soap on skin,

felt the quick pulse there.

Inside and out, where worlds begin,

stretched thin past compare.

A faint blue shadow, vein so near

the surface, pulsing light.

A fragile barrier, so clear,

against the coming night.

It's just skin, bone, and blood’s flow,

a small, quiet drum.

But holding everything I know,

until the end has come.

This soft spot, so easily bruised.
