Static Bloom

Saw them at the coffee shop, leaning in,

Just grabbing water. Then they did

That thing. And right when I begin

To function, something snaps. I hid

This stupid flush, this buzzing brain,

That rewires itself each time they pass.

The way they push their hair, a pain

That’s sweet as looking through new glass.

That worn spot on the counter’s edge,

Where their arm rested, light and brief.

My heart takes an immediate pledge

To this ridiculous belief.

It’s stupid. It’s so dumb.

My senses numb.

Just look away.
