Underneath It All

The keys made a metallic clatter,

fell where nobody looks.

Saw that coffee ring, a dark splatter,

and dust bunnies, like neglected books.

A map of crayon, faded, blurred,

under the table’s worn-out skin.

A silent world, unheard,

where all the forgotten things begin.

Just part of the furniture,

a shadow under the light.

Waiting for a gesture,

lost in the low light.
