That ad flashed up slick and fake

That ad flashed up, slick and fake,

a thing I never knew.

But the weight, oh, the solid ache

of plastic, heavy, true.

Not this glass slick with my thumb.

This was different. You turned the wheel,

felt the metal gears come

to life, a grinding feel.

The finger caught, pulled back slow,

a mechanical sigh, a weary groan.

Nothing instant, just the slow

way connection was known.

A voice like grit, a distant shore.

A dial that spun, and spun, and spun some more.
