Saying no

Saying no

should have been a fire,

a slammed door, a breath held sharp.

But I swallowed it,

silent, a weight

settling like dust on an unopened book.

Now the silence sits heavy,

a stubborn knot inside,

a lesson folded too late,

never made loud enough to matter.
