Tangled Lines

Orange snake across the floor,

half-hidden, a silent war.

Last night I stumbled—glass shattered,

curses spilled, the floor splattered.

Twisted wires, careless coil,

a tripwire set beneath the toil.

Under the table’s legs it slides,

lurking where the shadow hides.

A jolt of anger, sharp and quick,

small shocks that stick and stick.

The cord, a careless tether spun,

tying me to what I’ve undone.
