Unmarked Farewell

This coat, pulled from the back of the closet,

Holds more than just the winter chill.

A crumpled ticket, I almost lost it,

Still clings to a pocket, still.

March 17th. A movie. Popcorn.

Her laugh, bright against the screen.

We talked for hours, until the morn

Was thinking of what it might mean.

I said, 'See you soon.' A casual phrase.

Didn't know the miles would intervene.

Just ordinary, ordinary days,

Unmarked, unnoticed, between.
