The Repair

The needle pulls the thread so tight,

A small defense against the fray.

Each stitch a stubborn, honest fight

To keep the tear at bay.

This canvas bag, it’s seen some years,

Carried burdens, faced the rain.

And with each mended patch of tears,

I stitch away a little pain.

It’s not a perfect, smooth repair,

The puckering shows where I have been.

But holding it, I know I bear

More than just the cloth within.
