What I Cannot Discard

I found it while clearing storage.

March 15, 4:47 PM.

Her voice smaller than I remembered,

or maybe just older.

She said my name like it was a question

she'd been asking for years

and I never answered right.

There was silence after.

Then the sound of her hanging up.

I kept my thumb over the delete button.

Couldn't do it.

Now it's preserved in some cloud

I'll never understand,

her anger on a dead platform,

speaking my name into nothing.

the part about keeping things in the cloud is kind of a weird thought.

the specific date at the beginning felt a bit random.

That line about the thumb over the delete button is so real.
