Architecture 101

I found it in the drawer tonight,

a square of yellow, cheap and bright.

My nephew drew a place to stay

before his mother moved away.

Four windows look like staring eyes

underneath the crayon skies.

A single, stiff black coil of smoke

rises like a private joke.

There is no depth, there is no hall,

just one flat, unyielding wall.

I put it back beneath the mail

and felt the structure start to fail.

The part about the yellow paper is alright.

the last bit about putting it back under the mail is really sad.

The staring eyes line is kind of a lot.

I honestly didn't know what else to do with it besides hide it again.

Yeah it felt a bit haunting when i first looked at it.

Definitely, it really sticks with you.
