Twice Bought

The plastic handle gave way with a snap.

Steam hit my wrist like a physical slap.

Twenty dollars for a new piece of junk.

My heart is a weight that has finally sunk.

'Cheap is a luxury,' she said on the floor,

pointing at wires near the frame of the door.

I’m too poor to buy anything built to remain.

I just pay for the privilege of starting again.
