Expiration

The screen lit up beside my plate,

a word that arrived three years too late.

I’m chewing on chicken that’s rubbery and cold,

reading a story that’s already been told.

The gravy is skinning over in the bowl.

The reflection of the text is a grey hole

in the middle of the dark.

It missed the target and the mark.
