Filling

The rain is coming down in sheets

across the empty, grey-paved streets.

The kitchen light is buzzing low

with nowhere left for me to go.

I drink the water, glass by glass,

to let the heavy evening pass.

The pipes begin to moan and shake

for all the space I cannot fake.
