Paying for Forgiveness

The words we exchanged weigh heavy like stones,

each syllable echoes, wrapped in our tones.

My friend spoke of healing, of letting things go,

but it’s harder when feelings get tangled in woe.

On a threadbare couch, we sat in the gloom,

trading our sorrows, each story a tomb.

I gave up a part of me, felt the loss in my chest,

the price of forgiveness, a bittersweet test.
