Still Standing

I stopped on the corner

where I pass most days.

The sunflower is drooping now,

petals falling,

the center turned brown,

yellow petals scattered on the ground.

The stem is still straight,

but the flower is bent.

It's been there for weeks,

falling apart slowly,

still standing.

I keep walking.

The sunflower keeps drooping.
