Your Left Hand

My hand won't stay still on the page,

the pen skips as I try to sign.

The letters shake across the line.

There's a small brown spot on my knuckle,

a mark I don't remember getting.

The skin is thin as paper.

When I hold it flat against the desk,

I can almost see the vein underneath.

I sign my name again,

but the tremor follows each letter,

like my hand is already gone

before I've finished.
