The Space

I caught myself in the store window,

smiling,

and didn't look away.

The gap between my front teeth

was visible in the glass.

I just looked at it.

When did I stop being embarrassed?

The reflection showed me

the space,

the slight curve of my mouth,

all of it just there,

not something to cover,

not something to explain.

Just my mouth,

opening.
