Outer Perimeter

The radiator screams a high, thin note,

tight as a wire inside my throat.

I stepped outside to the top wood stair,

just to breathe the cooling air.

A moth is beating its dusty head

against the yellow light instead.

The gray splinters snag my woolen sock,

while the rest of the street is under lock.
