Budget Seating

I lean across the plastic frame

to sign the check and write my name.

My back is stiff, the room is quiet,

a lonely, hollow, hungry riot.

I stand up slow and turn to see

the red marks on the back of me.

A waffle grid, a plastic brand,

from sitting where I shouldn't stand.
