Blue Hair Day

Nobody saw me, not really,

at the party last night.

Just another face,

another quiet voice

lost in the clatter,

like nothing seemed to matter.

And it took me back.

College. That dare.

The chemical smell,

the stained bathtub,

the startling blue.

Not ocean blue, not sky,

but artificial, electric,

like a wound.

And everyone looked.

Heads snapped around.

A gasp, a laugh.

"Did you see her hair?"

It worked.

For a moment,

I was seen,

a brief and shining queen.

Then the color faded,

and so did I.
