Inherited layers

Leather cracked, buttons worn,

Faint cologne of nights forlorn.

Slipping on the awkward weight,

A past that clings to every gait.

Faded lining stained and thin,

Whispers fold within the skin.

This coat is not quite mine to bear,

But I wear its ghosts, unaware.
