The stubborn zip

This morning, the zipper caught again,

Its teeth like old grudges, sharp and thin.

Halfway up, it froze and slipped,

A stubborn gate that wouldn't zip.

Years of cold mornings tucked in folds,

The jacket’s stories, each stitch holds.

I wrestle with the metal jaw—

A fight I lose without a flaw.
