Accumulation

The pill hit the floorboard and rolled

into the gap where the light doesn't go.

I had to lean my shoulder into the frame

and heave the mattress toward the door.

There was a centipede, dry and brittle,

curled into a perfect, dusty question mark

inside a drift of grey lint and shed skin.

I found the white tablet near the baseboard.

It was matted with hair and a bit of grit.

I blew it off, and I swallowed it anyway.
