Pavement Glint

It sat there, on the cracked slab

by the bus stop bench,

wet, still, catching the sun

in a slick, oily sheen.

A small, contained universe

of iridescent filth.

Someone's expelled moment,

a quick, unthinking, wet relief.

It was almost pretty, in its way,

the colors shifting, thin film

of blues and grays, then gone

as the light changed. Just wet, then dry.
