Serving Size

The power’s out. The kitchen’s gone to gray.

I find the box and tear the cardboard tab.

The jagged flap is curled and gives away,

the only thing my heavy hands can grab.

The milk is turning purple in the bowl.

I find the hidden shapes between the lines.

A puzzle for a different kind of soul,

who has the time to study all the signs.
