The Cardholder

The drawer was stuck, the wood was tight.

I needed something thin and light.

I found the card in a winter coat,

with a name I’d signed but never wrote.

The barcode’s scratched, the plastic’s thin,

a record of where I have been.

It couldn't slide the latch away,

so in the dark the card will stay.
