Charged Air

Pulled the sweatshirt from the line,

it snapped, a blue flicker

between my finger and the thread.

Made me jump, like a raw nerve's twitch.

The whole house feels this way,

a hum in the drywall,

a low thrum beneath the floorboards.

Something waiting, just out of reach.

Like I’m holding my breath

for a shock I can’t quite name,

or a quiet current

running through everything, a small shame.
