Unattended

The porch is buckling like a knee.

The windows are a sightless gray.

I begged the sky to give it to me,

to let us live and let us stay.

The paper says you’re in the ward.

The gate has grown a rusted lock.

I pulled that chain, I begged the lord,

while leaning on the cinder block.

The weeds have taken back the drive.

I’m lucky to be still alive.

The roof is sagging at the center.

I’m lucky that I didn't enter.
