moon faced girl lies awake in the crib

last night, she ran as fast she could,

into the darkness, away from the man

who will come back, and try once again

the moon faced girl is never really asleep.

I see the walls breathe, and the counters grow and shrink

I realize now, its only me that doesnt change shape.

i've got to keep myself sedated, so i wont ever wake.

The boy tells me, its a cheap vacation that you take,

and he cant be the only one awake.

I look at my empty hands, and remember,

that in the algebra of need, one becomes three.

Now I lay me down to sleep,

pray the Lord my soul to keep.

If I should die before I 'wake,

I pray the Lord my soul to take.

moon faced girl lies awake in the crib

she returns to the darkness, and once again,

she will scream as she wakes.

I realize now, it's only me that doesn't change shape.
