IX

Part of The Miller's Daughter

I loved from off the bridge to hear

The rushing sound the water made,

And see the fish that everywhere

In the backcurrent glanced and played;

Low down the tall flagflower that sprung

Beside the noisy steppingstones,

And the massed chestnutboughs that hung

Thickstudded over with white cones.
