I found the notepad in the bottom of the stack,

filled with commands for screens that long ago went black.

F5 to refresh, a colon and a slash,

syntax for a system that ended in a crash.

A younger kid asked how to build a frame,

and I realized I didn't even know the name

of the language they use to make the world go round.

My roots are buried in a different patch of ground.

It’s like a knot in a shoelace, frayed and tight,

on a pair of boots I’m throwing out tonight.

I spent a decade learning how to stay,

only for the floor to simply move away.
