Fastener

I found it with my naked heel

while walking softly to the sink.

It gave me something real to feel

and stopped me having time to think.

A brassy head, a pointed shank,

it held a photo to the wall.

But now the space is only blank

and I am waiting for the fall.

A circular and purple bruise

is blooming on my dusty skin.

It’s just another thing to lose,

a little wound to let life in.
