The Click

He left.

Politely.

His coat, a dark shape down the hall.

Then, the click.

So loud.

The sudden quiet.

It slammed down, a heavy book.

No footsteps fading out,

just the stark absence.

A period.

A sentence I hadn't finished.

Or didn't want to.

The silence hummed,

a low frequency ache.

My heart, a small animal,

trapped behind the newly sealed

door.
