Free Fall

My hand brushed the rim

and the glass took a step

into the empty space

beside the bed.

I didn't reach for it.

I just leaned over the edge

and watched the gravity take hold.

It didn't shatter—

it just tipped and spilled.

The water hit the floorboards

spreading out like a sheet

of clear, shivering plastic.

I watched the wood turn dark

and waited for the cold

to reach my socks.
