The neighbor’s Honda

The neighbor’s Honda

backed out of the drive

and vanished before the brake lights

could even turn the corner red.

The world has been edited down

to the three steps of my porch

and the wet smell of the cedar.

On the screen door,

the mesh is holding a thousand

tiny glass beads,

a cold sweat trapped

between the house

and the nothing outside.
