Fading Boundary

A thin white scar drawn rough across cracked concrete,

a chalk line fading beneath weeds that push through.

Once it held a game, a rule,

a boundary firm, now whispered and breaking.

The line wavers under tired sun,

a reluctant border where dust collects.

Feet traced it, marking time and place,

a fragile command that no one keeps.

The court holds its quiet

like the last word on a fight,

a ragged edge that’s giving in to dark

and the slow swallowing silence of neglect.
