Lonely Together

We gathered at a bar, clinking glasses with cheer,
but shadows danced between us, held tight by the fear.
A buzz of bright screens, the silence profound,
like ghosts in our laughter, we’re lost, not found.
I typed out a text, fingers shaky with doubt,
while their heads bobbed low, lost in their own route.
Twelve unread messages, words left unspoken,
how did we gather, yet feel so broken?
The glow of those screens lit faces turned pale,
reminders of friendship dissolved in the fail.
I laughed through the emptiness, clutched my own glass,
but I couldn’t shake off this weight of the mass.
