The potted plant wilts despite all my care

The potted plant wilts, despite all my care,

it crumbles and fades, yet I linger and stare.

Watered with hope, but its leaves lose their fight,

a cruel irony blooms in the dead of the night.

I watch as it bends, caught in shadows and light,

once vibrant and green, now a sorrowful sight.

My fingers tremble, a gardener's remorse,

for the life I can nurture, yet it won’t run its course.

A yellowed leaf slips, drifting down to the floor,

a whisper of life, but it won’t breathe anymore.
