The phone rang out, a sudden sound,
My heart began to pound.
They knew the answer, good or bad,
The news I waited for, or dread.
But then the line just went dead.
A hollow tone inside my head.
'Call Ended,' blinked the screen so white.
Lost in the fading afternoon light.
