Stuck Defending

Heard news today, a familiar sound,

Of someone’s faults on shaky ground.

And saw myself, a younger fool,

Ignoring sense, breaking the rule.

That bumper sticker, faded now,

The promise made, I don't know how

I held so tight, believed the lie,

Beneath a false and painted sky.
