Red on Blue

The room went quiet.

A sudden heat, then

the sharp, metallic tang.

Hot, thick drops

spilling onto worn denim.

My white shirt

blooming, a clumsy flower.

Faces turned, then

away.

Nothing to do but stand.

Feel the slow seep.

The stain spreading.

The taste.
