Driveway Red

The mailbox post.

I pass it daily.

A tired red,

seen too readily.

I tell you now,

its shape, its size.

The way the lid

would slant, surprise

me with its rust.

The paint peeled thin.

But what was wrong?

Did it begin

to sag? Was it

square, or round?

The details blur.

Lost to the ground.
