The Road's Fault

The street, slick black.

A dark mouth opened,

water-filled, unseen.

The car dipped hard,

a violent lurch.

Spray exploded

against the glass,

a sudden, dirty curtain.

A jolt

that ran bone-deep.

Then nothing.
